Best slam Wayne (da bear) Humphries proving the value of helmets!

Good GS racing on a slippery road.
The local Councillor loved it, and wants us back next year, but we will have to wait 4 years for hot mix. Have made a good impression and established communications with council, so lets hope a few other roads will be closed just for downhill skating events.
Full write up and pic to follow.
Thanks everyone who helped and raced. Good job of representing

Hope you’re OK Wayne, that was a solid backsplat slam. Thanks heaps to Bernie and the good folks at SimplySkateboarding.

Wow what a big day, I didnt appreciate how big an opputunity it
was for us to showcase our sport.

No finger pointing intended, but
Being used to our well practiced and effecient running of events,
I was a bit unsure what our role was meant to be,
wasnt sure if we were to just set the course or help run it.

I’m not sure how much Viv and her crew know about slalom/DH,
but next time/year if we have them come train/see
what we do we, we can make it so much more professional and legitimate to the spectators.

Wayne D J Humphrys
is pleased with his results from the race on the weekend.
No intra-cranial haemorrhage or collection. No skull fracture identified.

Yeh!

Bear,
The format was the best that could be done to run it as a casual show case event and in order to fit in with the limited time brackets, and roadway.

Viv & crew are novices and called us for help by running the event it, with only two weeks notice.
It seems that Cr Noel had the idea to connect with YOUF and pushed it through at the last minute, without any idea of what was involved, or any consultation.(but then who would anyone know who to contact given our sport is so tiny)
I would have preferred more time to set the course, and of course a less slippery surface with a better run-out area.
A single lane timed slalom would have been more legitimate for racing, given the equipment we have, but it would be dull for spectators.

As an example of how little they know about Sk8racing OH&S, Cr Noel suggest the next year we send the the next pair of racers down after the preceding pair hit the hump.

As to efficient running of events…because race organisers are very thin on the ground, on the day i got Viv to looks after the score keeping, so that we could manage the course.
After your crash motivation to organise anything is pretty low.

Hope you are healing OK.

I still say it was a great day,
i just think we do such a good job with no “official” help,
i thought they would/could have got a bit more organised,

some may think making it tooo official/organised
(like having a riders breifing) may crap the style,
but everyone knows how things will run,
and i thnk it runs smoother.

I agree Wayne…we got away with it (only just)…I feel a meeting coming on 8)

Sounds like everything went ok. You learn quick when your thrown in to the deep end. Now you can make everything twice as good next time. Single lane racing can be done with commentating and updates with times and leaders, really picks the the thrill up.

glad to hear your ok wayne, you did recieve a standing ovation.
on the very last billycart race the young girls helmet came off causing her to lose control and plough councillor noel into the hay bales,
more spectacular than your misshap, luckilly he was up again after a brief lay me down.
well i think that goes to show that skating is no more dangerous than good old billycarting.
